Motor class switching

Select Rad Power Bikes models offer motor class switching to allow you to select a motor class for your ebike that best suits your needs. Motor class switching is available on the following models with color displays:

  • Radster Road
  • Radster Trail
  • RadWagon 5
  • RadExpand 5 Plus (Class 1 and 2 only)

To change the motor class setting while the ebike is stopped, navigate to the Menus screen and select the 'Class' menu, and then use the remote buttons to select the class setting most appropriate for you. Once a new class is selected, it will default when the ebike is powered on.

Class Top Speed Throttle Notes
Class 1 20 MPH (32 KM/H) Limited This class allows the ebike to receive motor assistance up to 20 MPH (32 KM/H) while pedaling. Throttle functionality is limited to only when the ebike is being pedaled.

Select this class for riding on trails where throttle only usage is prohibited, you want to limit accidental throttle activation, or if want to conserve battery power by limiting throttle usage.
Class 2 20 MPH (32 KM/H) Enabled This class allows the ebike to receive motor assistance up to 20 MPH (32 KM/H) while pedaling. Throttle usage by itself can provide up to 20 MPH (32 KM/H) of assistance as well.

* All ebike models introduced prior to 2024 offer Class 2 functionality only.
Class 3 (25 MPH) 25 MPH (40 KM/H) Enabled

This class is intended for use in locations that limit ebike top speeds, e.g. New York, to 25 MPH (40 KM/H). Throttle usage by itself can provide up to 20 MPH (32 KM/H) of assistance.

* Class 3 functionality on U.S. ebikes only.

* Class 3 functionality is not available on the RadExpand 5 Plus.

Class 3 (28 MPH) 28 MPH (45 KM/H) Enabled

This class allows the ebike to receive motor assistance up to 28 MPH (45 KM/H) while pedaling. Throttle usage by itself can provide up to 20 MPH (32 KM/H) of assistance.

* Class 3 functionality on U.S. ebikes only.

* Class 3 functionality is not available on the RadExpand 5 Plus.

Maximum speed and throttle usage may not be allowed in all areas. Always follow local regulations when selecting a motor class setting for your ebike.
